Precision Transmission Center is more than transmissions. From setup and fabrication to winning championships our team has done it all. Our team has extensive experience building, maintaining and driving. Our drivers have raced outlaw carts, midgets, stock cars, 360 sprint cars, and 410 sprint cars. In 2016 we purchased our latest road race Camaro. It is a 1989 Gen 3 Camaro with a GM 604 crate motor (Chevy 350) and World Class T5 manual transmission. We raced the Chumpcar 14 Hours at Daytona International Speedway endurance race on April 1 of this year after months of preparation. As you can see, we did extensive modifications to the interior, suspension, fuel supply and exterior. This was to be our first race in this association and this track so we knew we would run into many unexpected hurdles. The team did well and the car did well until about 4 hours into the race. We lost 3rd gear and ran into oil pressure problems with the engine. At that point we pulled out of the race to preserve the engine and nerves of the crew.
We plan to race next at Sebring International Raceway in December, then again at Daytona International Speedway in 2018. Moving forward we are making major changes to the car. So far we have removed the 350 motor and will replace it with a 383 Stroker engine. The 350 motor had 400 horsepower and the new 383 motor will have 590 horsepower. Previously the rear differential was a 9 bolt Australian with a 327 gear ratio. We have replaced it with a custom 12 bolt Moser posi-traction differential with a 411 gear ratio, which will hold up to 1000hp. Since the World Class T5 transmission did not hold up to the 400hp of the old motor we have replaced it with a Tremac 6 speed manual transmission, which should easily stand up to 750hp.
In addition to the power train improvements we’re making changes to the rear suspension. A double adjustable Pannard bar was added to give strength and adjustability to the rear suspension. A new stabilizer bar, control arms, slotted brake rotors, and torque bar were all added to the rear suspension along with lowering the rear control arm mounting points to raise instant center and increase forward traction. These steps should all add stability and much better handling on the track.
